Stevenson Issues Apology to Mountaineer Nation

West Virginia guard Erik Stevenson was the first Mountaineer out in front of the media on Friday, ahead of the Mountaineers’ matchup with the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks (13-1, 0-2) to issue a public apology for his actions in West Virginia’s first two Big 12 Conference games of the season.
Stevenson drew his second technical in as many games on Monday night after hitting three consecutive he gave an inflammatory gesture to former Oklahoma State guard, and current Boston Celtics guard, Marcus Smart, which cost Stevenson his fourth foul and awarded OSU a pair of free throws. He fouled out of the of the game minutes later with over five minutes remaining in the game.
“I know my actions did not represent this program the way it should be, this coaching staff, this fan base and my teammates, just wanted to apologize for that,” said Stevenson.
“I know how serious it is and I know my actions didn’t technically cost us the game, but it prevented me from staying in the game which essentially could have helped us win both of those ball games are things that I just don’t do on a regular basis,” continued Stevenson.
The senior guard did not field any question on the incidents but clarified his apologies for those actions, especially to West Virginia fan base and head coach Bob Huggins before quickly turning his attention to the third-ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
