On Thursday, the University of Texas relieved men's basketball head coach Chris Beard of his duties.

Beard was arrested early in the morning of December 12th for a charge of assault on a family or household member in which their breath was impeded. He was suspended without pay by the University of Texas later in the day.

The assault charge, if convicted, carries a possible sentence of two to ten years.

The 49-year-old head coach is in his second year at Texas and had the Longhorns ranked No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll with a 7-1 record. Texas is 5-1 since his suspension with the recent loss coming to Kansas State on Monday night.
