West Virginia Falls in Ft. Worth
Ft. Worth, TX - West Virginia committed 11 first half turnovers as TCU built a 12-point halftime lead, and the Horned Frogs (17-7, 6-5) continued their dominance in the second half to hand the Mountaineers (8-16, 3-8) an 81-65 loss Monday night.
West Virginia grabbed an early 10-5 advantage, led by threes from guard Kerr Kriisa and forward Quinn Slazinksi and highlighted by an alley-oop to guard RaeQuan Battle
The Mountaineers were held scoreless for six minutes, committing four turnovers, to propel TCU to a 14-2 run as the Horned Frogs claimed 19-12 lead at the midway point of the first half.
West Virginia cut the deficit to two with five minutes remaining, but guard Trevian Tennyson hit a three, Jameer Nelson Jr. followed with a layup, and a foul on WVU forward Pat Suemnick after having his foot stepped on placed Jakobe Coles at the free throw line put the Horned Frogs up nine, 37-28, with 2:40 remaining in the half.
Trevian Tennyson buried his three of the half, extending the Horned Frogs' lead to 12 as TCU took a 47-35 advantage into halftime. RaeQuan Battle led all scorers with 15 points at the break and Nelson produced a TCU team-high 12 points.
TCU center Ernest Udeh Jr. opened the second half with a three, then West Virginia followed with a 5-0 spurt, capped off with a three from forward Quinn Slawinski to get within nine.
The Horned Frogs stretched their lead out to 18 behind a 10-1 run at the midway point of the second half.
West Virginia committed a season-high 19 turnovers on the night, 8 in the second half, and went 1-11 from the field, while TCU built its largest lead of the night, 22, with five minutes remaining in the game as the Horned Frogs coasted to an 81-65 victory.
