Morgantown, WV - The West Virginia Mountaineers (2-1) handled the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (1-2) Tuesday night 70-57. WVU forward Quinn Slazinski and guard Kobe Johnson led all scorers with 19 points, setting a career-high for Johnson.

West Virginia guard Kobe Johnson scored seven of the Mountaineers' first nine points of the game for a 9-8 advantage. 

Jacksonville State junior forward Marcellus Brigham Jr. hit back-to-back threes to propel the Gamecocks to a four-point lead at the twelve-minute mark of the first half. 

WVU forward Pat Suemnick buried a straightaway three to reclaim the Mountaineer lead with 9:28 remaining in the first half. 

The Mountaineers ended the first half on a 14-3 run in the final five minutes of the half to take a 40-27 lead into halftime. Kobe Johnson led all scorers with 11 and Jesse Edwards had 10 points and five rebounds. 

West Virginia began the second half on a 7-2 spurt to extend the lead, 45-27.

Mountaineer forward Quinn Slazinski put up 10 points in the first 12 minutes of the second half to keep distance from the Gamecocks and maintain a double digit lead 59-43.

Jacksonville State guard KyKy Tandy hit a pair of threes and a jumper to lead the Gamecocks on a 10-0 run to get within eight with just under four minutes remaining. 

A drive to the basket by Slazinski drew the foul and prompted a media timeout. He hit both free throws out of the break and Josiah Harris followed with a three to put the Mountaineers up 13 with just over three minutes left to play in the game and eased to a 70-57 victory.
