What Bob Huggins Said Following the Loss to Maryland
How their early momentum vanished quickly
"We were a little careless with the ball and they made shots. They made shots. They started backing us in. We didn't match up with them very well when they started mashing us in."
How much not having Emmitt Matthews for several minutes changed the game
"It hurts us. He's a five-year guy that knows what we want done. He's our best perimeter defender. He gives us another guy on the glass who can keep balls alive and rebound it. And he makes open shots. That's a huge loss for us."
Foul trouble plus lack of depth in frontcourt
"Our up front depth took a hit when we lost Mo [Wague] for the year. He was our best shot-blocker. So losing him hurt us. I gotta be careful what I say, I guess. But, yeah, I'll just leave it at that."
Importance of Kedrian Johnson today
"He was absolutely terrific. Without him, we wouldn't have been able to stay in the game. The last shot, it looked to me like it grazed the front of the rim. So, he's an inch away from winning the game for us. I mean, it was dead online. It just missed by a few inches."
If he has put any thought into retirement
"No, the only thing I've thought about in the last month and a half was getting these guys to a point where they could come here. Erik [Stevenson] for instance, had never played in an NCAA Tournament. You want to get those guys to an NCAA Tournament and experience the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, ours wasn't very long but at least he got to play in one. I don't know. It's like anything else. You probably got people who enjoy what you write and there's probably people who say I wouldn't read a damn thing he writes. And I got the same situation going on. I got people who think I should stay on for quite a while and there's people who are thinking I ought to pack it in and let some young kid come in and screw it up. So..."
If he has talked to any of the seniors that have eligibility left
"I mean, in a way we've already kind of talked about it. I think we let them kind of defuse for a while and then we'll sit down with everybody. Not just those guys, but the guys that have exhausted their eligibility. We'll sit down and talk about what we did right and what we did wrong. Who's staying and who's going."
