The West Virginia Mountaineers (6-11, 1-3) fell to the No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners (14-3, 2-2) Wednesday night 77-63.

Head coach Josh Eilert sat with WVU play-by-play caller Tony Caridi and gave his thoughts on the loss to the Sooners.

Opening Statement

The two things that stand out the most to me is probably the fast break points and second chance points, not to mention the rebounds. We didn't rebound it whatsoever and we credit the win against Texas in the way we approached the game in terms of everybody's got one, we're going to take away all the second chance points but this league is so hard defensively in the half court. It's a struggle to score in the half court no matter who you play, and I tell these guys over and over again, if we can't convert some fast break points and get some second chances, it's a struggle. It's a struggle. So, we had two first break points second, second chance points. Only one guy on the floor got an offensive rebound that was Pat Suemnick and he got three. So, if you only got eight easy points and you got to labor to score and the half court especially, with the with their approach and in terms of, going into the game, their game plan is to slow us down and put that token pressure on us and to where you have to use some clock to get down the floor and then you're a little bit discombobulated in terms of running your sets and we weren't very good at handling that and with turned up the pressure i half court and everybody felt that pressure and I think they forced a lot of shots and should have been forced.

Oklahoma scoring with ease

I see what he was doing. [Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser] He was trying to force the issue downhill and the aggressor gets the call, that typically happens. And we weren't there tonight. We were we were step slow, our minds were step slow, our bodies were a step slow. We couldn't get to 50/50 balls.

We didn't get a chance to practice yesterday either. We had nearly 10 hours of travel time with all the flight issues, so we didn't get in here till late. [We] left the facility 11 and didn't get a chance to sure some of this up. So, I had to kind of go a little heavier today in shoot around, which I don't like to do to get some of the things covered that we need to cover, and just our minds or bodies weren't into it and if that's not the case, you're going get beat. They [Oklahoma] played a good game, they didn’t play an extraordinary game, a lot of this was on us.
