Two Mountaineers Ranked in The Almanac's Top 100 Players in College Hoops

West Virginia is home to two of the best players in the country.

It's incredible to think that after everything that happened this offseason, the West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball team has two of the top players in the nation. And maybe more.

Recently, center Jesse Edwards (No. 71) and RaeQuan Battle (No. 87) were ranked in the Almanac's Top 100 players in college basketball. The Almanac is releasing its top 100 players a little bit at a time, so they still have 65 more players to reveal and who knows? Maybe there's one more Mountaineer that will be featured.

Edwards, a native of Amsterdam, averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game last season at Syracuse. He notched a career-high 27 points in the season finale versus Wake Forest and nabbed a career-best 21 rebounds against Bryant in November. He also twice swatted a season-high six blocks (Pitt, Richmond), a notch below his career-high set as a junior.

Battle spent the first two years of his career at Washington, where he averaged 4.8 points per game in a rather limited role. Following the 2020-21 campaign he transferred to Montana State. Over the past two seasons, Battle has become a big part of their success averaging 13.1 points per contest. This season alone, he went for 17.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks a game while shooting 47% from the field and 35% from three.
