WVU Expresses Interest in Former Syracuse Star Big Man
West Virginia's search for a big man continues.
According to 24/7 High School Hoops, the Mountaineers have reached out to Syracuse transfer Jesse Edwards. Along with West Virginia, Edwards has heard from Arkansas, BYU, Georgia, Gonzaga, LSU, Missouri, Seton Hall, and Vanderbilt.
Edwards saw minimal playing time during his first two seasons with the Orange but really blossomed into a quality starter in 2021-22 averaging 12 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game. This past season, he took it to the next level averaging a double-double while maintaining his elite rim protection numbers. He totaled 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per contest.
The Mountaineers really struggled to protect the paint at times this past season and it's something that Bob Huggins knows can't be an issue once again in 2023-24. Mohamed Wague and James Okonkwo are developing into solid defensive players, but learning from an All-ACC talent like Edwards could do wonders for their development.
Edwards will have one year of eligibility remaining.
