BREAKING: Jose Perez Enters Transfer Portal
There's a lot of uncertainty as to what the West Virginia men's basketball roster will look like in 2023-24 but we should gain some clarity soon when the transfer portal closes.
Until then, we will continue to see movement in and out of the portal out of Morgantown. Moments ago, senior guard Jose Perez announced that he has entered the portal but like his fellow teammates, will consider a return to West Virginia.
Perez transferred in from Manhattan after his coach, Steve Masiello, less than two weeks before the start of the 2022-23 season. This prompted Perez's transfer to West Virginia but unfortunately, he was unable to receive a waiver to play immediately.
Former WVU head coach Bob Huggins fought hard for him to get cleared but for whatever reason the NCAA denied the appeal, forcing Perez to sit out the entire season. Perez could have turned pro this offseason but decided to come back for his last year of eligibility to play for Huggins and make a deep run next March.
With Huggins submitted his resignation a little over a week ago, Perez is unsure of where he wants to play basketball next season and understandably so. If he does return to WVU, it'll give the Mountaineers a huge boost offensively as Perez averaged 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, earning First Team All-MAAC honors a season ago with the Jaspers.
