Former WVU Player Arrested at High School Basketball Game

Well, that escalated quickly...

Last weekend, former West Virginia guard Brandon Knapper was arrested at a high school basketball game in California, according to TMZ.

Knapper is now a high school referee and was officiating a game between Arlington and Oak Hills at Santiago High School in Corona, California. Oak Hills head coach Rob Alexander appeared to have not agreed with a call or the way the game was being officiated and Knapper responded by throwing a punch, knocking the coach to the ground. Before players, other coaches, and security came over to break the altercation up, Knapper attempted to throw a few more jabs while Alexander was on the ground.

According to the report, Alexander was taken to a local hospital and requested prosecution against Knapper, who was booked at the Riverside County Sheriff's Department jail last Sunday with a $25,000 bail.

He was released on Wednesday but is scheduled to appear in court on November 3rd for charges of battery causing serious bodily injury and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

Knapper appeared in 59 games for West Virginia before transferring to Eastern Kentucky. He finished his career at Cal State San Bernardino.
