WVU Sends Strong Message to NCAA Selection Committee
Entering the Big 12 Conference tournament, the West Virginia Mountaineers were tabbed as a bubble team.
They led No. 5 seed Oklahoma State by double digits in the second half in the quarterfinals, but the Cowgirls continued to chip away at the deficit bringing the game down to the very final shot. Cowgirls guard Terryn Milton drove the ball to the middle of the paint hoisting up a shot that hit the back of the rim and then sat on top of the front of the rim before dropping in with .1 seconds remaining, ultimately sealing West Virginia's fate.
That one unlucky roll could be the difference in whether or not WVU gets into the NCAA Tournament. According to ESPN bracketologist, Charlie Creme, the Mountaineers are the first team listed in the "First Four Out" category.
Before the women's bracket is revealed tonight at 8 p.m. EST, WVU made sure to boast its resume on social media with a last-ditch effort to convince the selection committee that they are deserving of an at-large bid.
