West Virginia gets a commitment from former Wester Kentucky kicker Skyler Simcox. The pre-season 2017 Lou Groza award watch-list kicker made it official on Friday night. He is sitting out the 2017 season, will be enrolling at West Virginia in January and will be eligible to play in 2018, with two years of eligibility remaining.

Skyler grew up just 4 hours from Morgantown in Abingdon Virginia “I was surrounded by Mountaineer fans, I grew up following WVU and I’m excited about being part of a great program and a great staff”, says Skyler, “WVU contacted me, talked to me for about a week, watched my film, then offered me a full scholarship”.

Currently, Skyler is in Birmingham Alabama training with Mike McCabe with One on One Kicking, getting ready to come into Morgantown to compete for both field goal and kickoff duties. One on One Kicking also trains current NFL players such as Ryan Allen with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell.

His longest field goal while at Western Kentucky was 52 yards against Middle Tennessee State, also connecting from 45, 47 and 50 yards on the year. He finished his sophomore year 16-22.

Skyler will visit Morgantown October 14th when the Mountaineers will host Texas Tech.
