Anonymous Donor Gifts $500,000 to Country Roads Trust

West Virginia's collective gets a significant boost.

In this new age of collegiate athletics, the support of a school's fan base will play a bigger factor than ever imagined.

Schools can't directly offer or even have conversations about money with a prospective student-athlete, but they can have a third party involved that can give them opportunities to profit off their name, image, and likeness.

This is where Country Roads Trust comes in.

The Trust's membership has grown significantly over the last month or so and in an effort to help boost the overall strength of the trust, an anonymous donor agreed to gift the Trust a one-time $500,00 donation if 1,500 members signed up before West Virginia's bowl game on December 27th against North Carolina.

Wednesday evening, after the Mountaineer football program welcomed in over 20 new players during the early signing period, that threshold was met, unlocking the half million-dollar gift.

It's worth noting that this gift to the Trust is not for any one sport or student-athlete. It does, however, immediately help the efforts of player retention and gives them more money-making opportunities to newcomers.

The stronger the Trust is, the stronger the athletic programs are at WVU.
