Bishop Earns Big 12 Defensive Player and Co-Newcomer of the Week

West Virginia University defensive back Beanie Bishop earns Mountaineers' first Big 12 weekly honor of the season

On Monday afternoon, the Big 12 Conference announced West Virginia University defensive back Beanie Bishop as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and Co-Newcomer of the Week, sharing the honor with Oklahoma State receiver Leon Johnson. 

Bishop hauled in a pair of interceptions in West Virginia's 41-28 win over UCF on Saturday, marking the first Mountaineer to grab two interceptions in a game since Josh Chandler-Semedo in 2021 versus Kansas, while also tallying four tackles and a pass deflection. 

The graduate student leads the league in passes defended (16) and pass breakups (12) and is tied for second in interceptions.
