What the ESPN FPI Says About WVU's Chances Against UCF

No chance for the Mountaineers? Interesting.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for the West Virginia Mountaineers as they've dropped two straight Big 12 contests in which they had the lead in the fourth quarter.

With their backs against the wall, WVU has to come out swinging if they want to put an end to their two-game skid and stay alive in the Big 12 picture when they square off against UCF this Saturday.

The Knights are searching for their first Big 12 win and nearly secured that last week with what would have been the biggest win in program history against Oklahoma on the road. UCF failed on a two-point conversion that would have sent the game into overtime.

According to the ESPN FPI, West Virginia has just a 29.4% chance to get the win and get back on track while UCF has a 70.6% chance to grab that elusive first conference victory.

Although I understand why the Knights are projected to win this game, I am a little surprised by the numbers. I think somewhere around 55-45 in favor of UCF would be more appropriate. If you're WVU, this is just another tool for motivation. A team that was playing G5 football a year ago is viewed as the clear favorite over you. The Knights haven't done much in league play this year, yet they have a 70% chance to win? Make it make sense.
