Quick Hits: Greene's Repeated Mistakes, Defensive Woes, Injury Update + More

WVU head coach Neal Brown recaps the loss to Oklahoma and previews Cincinnati.

Passing game issues

"We probably dropped five. One running back drop, four on the wideouts, so that would have got us to 15-of-31. It wasn't a case where we had guys open in the game. I think the deeper question is when we've had guys open in the games we've struggled...we've talked about Garrett's fundamental issues and there's some of these things that are repeated. And he knows this he's going to have to get them corrected or he's going to be a 50% passer and that's not good enough. He's got to get those things corrected."

Defense continuing to allow big chunk plays and not getting stops

"I would say that if you looked at the body of work that would be the only outlier. We didn't play well defensively versus Houston and we didn't play very well defensively in the fourth quarter versus Oklahoma State. But that's the only game where that's really occurred. There's a reason why they're in the top ten year in and year out in recruiting. They got good players. They had a chip on their shoulder because they lost two games. Their fanbase is on their tail and they came out with their backs against the wall and played their best game of the year. We didn't play well enough and they're not that much better than us. That's a game that we should have for sure been competitive in and with an opportunity to win the game in the fourth quarter."

Injury update on CJ Donaldson and Doug Nester

"They didn't practice yesterday but we'll see how they do later in the week. I'll probably have a better idea when Tony (Caridi) and I do the radio show on Thursday. Everybody else that played (is good). Hurt feelings...does that count? Got a lot of hurt feelings. I think we're pretty healthy."

Offensive line's performance

"I have high expectations and we still ran the ball for 176 yards, we didn't give up a sack. They just weren't dominant. Oklahoma, their d-line got up for it and Brent (Venables) did some different things than he had done in previous games. It took us a little while to settle down. It wasn't that we played poorly and honestly, most teams would probably take 176 yards and no sacks versus Oklahoma. But for us, the standard that we're kind of setting and the way we play up front, it wasn't up to our standard or up to our expectations. And then we lost some of our fundamentals when they did some things we hadn't seen on video."

WVU immortalizing Don Nehlen

"He's been great to me. He's talked to our team a bunch through the years. He's been very supportive and that's really all I can ask. I have a great deal of respect for him as a coach and a man. He did it for a long time here. He did it the right way. But I feel like the longer he's been away, the more appreciation our fan base has for him and as they should. He was great for a long time."
