Neal Brown Speaks on Future at WVU
If you ask the West Virginia fanbase on their opinion of the 2023 football season, you'll get a split reaction. Half of them would say it was a success, considering they were picked to finish 14th in the Big 12 and blew those expectations out of the water. The other half would say the only reason they won eight games is because of the teams they had on the schedule, or more notably, the ones they avoided (Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, and Texas).
The overwhelming feeling is that Neal Brown will be back as the head football coach in 2024. Athletic Director Wren Baker noted on several occasions that he wouldn't hold Brown to a win total, but one could assume that winning eight games with a team picked to finish dead last is more than enough for Brown to keep his job.
During an appearance on Talkline with Hoppy Kercheval on Tuesday, he was asked if he expects to be back next season.
"God-willing," Brown said. "I'm in regular contact with Wren and I've got a contract. I don't think we necessarily have to talk every single day. I have a really good relationship with him. I have a really good relationship with Dr. Gee and I feel confident in what we're building and the strides we made. We've got to continue to get better. Our goal is to play in that game that's staged in the first Saturday of December in Dallas. That's our goal and we're making progress to get there. I'm very confident in the growth of our program and where we're going.
"And yes, I do expect to be here. My family and I have enjoyed our time at West Virginia and we want to see this through."
