Report: Houston Fires Dana Holgorsen

The former Mountaineer head coach is on the open market.

Houston has fired head football coach Dana Holgorsen, according to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle

Holgorsen went 31-28 during his five seasons at the helm, including a 4-8 record this season in the program's first year in the Big 12 Conference. Holgorsen had experience transitioning a team to the Big 12 before taking West Virginia from the Big East to the league in 2012. Many assumed that was one of the reasons why the Cougars sought after his services in 2019. They had a vision to make a jump to a Power Five conference and he was viewed as the man to do it.

Holgorsen warned the administration at the University of Houston that moving to the Big 12 would not be a smooth transition and that it would take a couple of years to build up the necessary depth to compete on a weekly basis. I understand the frustration from Houston, but to can the guy after just one year in the Big 12 is a bit premature, in my opinion. What were their expectations? They obviously weren't realistic.

Holgorsen spent the first eight years of his head coaching career at West Virginia where he led the Mountaineers to a 61-41 record, notching two 10-win seasons.
