Score Predictions for West Virginia vs. Oklahoma State

Our staff picks this week's game between the Mountaineers and Cowboys.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-2, 2-1) welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-2, 2-1) Saturday afternoon to cap off homecoming week. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 and the action will broadcast on ESPN.

Just a short few weeks ago, this looked like an easy win on the schedule for the Mountaineers. I guess that makes me a fool for thinking Mike Gundy wouldn't turn things around.

Oklahoma State has ripped off two straight wins over ranked opponents, defeating Kansas State and Kansas. A large part of that is due to the success of Alan Bowman who has cemented himself as QB1 for the Pokes. The other part is the offensive line isn't shuffling around as much and because of it, they've protected much better in recent weeks.

Last week was the worst West Virginia has looked defensively this season. Missed tackles, too many easy completions, and very little pressure on the QB. I'm not predicting a complete 180 for that side of the ball, but I do think we'll see a much stronger showing, particularly from the front seven.

This has the makings of a game that will go all the way down to the end and why wouldn't it? Between the two schools, they've played six Big 12 games. All six of them were one-score games. West Virginia in yet another close one.

Oklahoma comes into Morgantown having won consecutive Big 12 games, while West Virginia had its four-game winning streak ended in Houston.

The key for will not let the heartbreaking loss turn into two and the Mountaineers will have to contain an offense that averaged 458.3 yards over the last three games.

West Virginia has appeared to find its passing game after Garrett Greene threw for a career-high 391 yards and two touchdowns against Houston. However, the defense and special teams units had their worst showing of the season, allowing 41 points.

I suspect there will still be lingering effects from the loss in Houston and head coach Mike Gundy and his staff might be able to replicate some of Holgorsen's success against the Mountaineer defense. However, I think the Mountaineer offense puts together a game winning drive in the final minute for a 30-23 victory (without the celebration penalty).
