SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Charles Woods /

Charles Woods (Dallas, Tx.) joined the Mountaineer football team in summer 2021 as a transfer from Illinois State. He was coming off a redshirt season with the Redbirds, and made his WVU debut against Maryland. The week of Oct. 25, he was recognized by the Big 12 as the conference's selection for Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week.

He played in 11 games last season, registering 31 tackles (22 solo), two TFLs, two interceptions, four pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. His first season in the gold and blue earned him All-Big 12 Honorable Mention (PFF College).

Ahead of 2022, Woods was tabbed as a member of the Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Preseason First Team (Big 12 Media), Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Preseason Second Team (Lindy's), Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Preseason Third Team (Athlon Sports), and Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Preseason Fourth Team (Phil Steele). The season didn't play out quite as Woods had planned, after an injury in the season opener derailed his playing time.

Woods came back for three more games (Texas Tech, TCU, and Iowa State), but has not played since.

He has 36 total (28 solo) tackles to his name, a pair of TFLs, two pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions with the Mountaineers, but his return is unclear.
