Three Things WVU Must Do on Saturday vs. Duquesne

The Mountaineers still have to get some things accomplished this weekend.

Normally on Friday, I'll release my three keys to the game for West Virginia. But since it's Duquesne and there aren't really any keys to winning, I'm listing three things that must happen.

Throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage

Neal Brown says Garrett Greene can throw the ball down the field and I believe he does have the ability. But do I actually believe Neal will commit to getting vertical with the pass game? Meh. He might do so this week, but it has to carry over into the final ten games. But getting back on track here, this is a great opponent for Greene to build on his footwork and for Brown to build his trust in his starting quarterback. With no downfield passing game, you don't have an offense.

Get an early lead and rest starters

This game doesn't need to be competitive for long. Pitt has its hands full this week with fellow Big 12 member Cincinnati, so I'm sure Neal Brown would love for his team to get a comfortable lead and go into the Backyard Brawl healthy.

Find five

This goes hand in hand with the aforementioned point. If and when the game gets out of hand (or in control) the coaching staff needs to find five more players that can help the team this season. Whether that's true freshmen, younger guys who have developed, or walk-ons. Ideally, you'd like to come out of this game with two more contributors on offense, two on defense, and one on special teams. Obviously, all of them can play on special teams, but you hope four of those guys earn a key role at their natural position.
