West Virginia's Series History vs the Big 12's Newest Members
The Big 12 Conference released its much-anticipated 2023 football schedule on Tuesday with the four newly acquired members, Houston, UCF, BYU and Cincinnati, making their debuts on the conference slate.
West Virginia will encounter all four programs this fall, in place of Kansas State, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas.
The Mountaineers open Big 12 Conference play at home against Texas Tech Sept. 23, then travel to TCU before trekking back to Texas for the first-ever meeting with former WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen and his Houston Cougars for a Thursday night matchup on Oct. 12.
West Virginia will play its first regular season contest in the state of Florida since taking on South Florida in 2011 when they travel to UCF on Oct. 28. The Mountaineers have encountered UCF twice, in 2003 and 2004, and took both meetings with a combined score of 81-38.
The Mountaineers welcome BYU and Cincinnati in November. West Virginia's only meeting with BYU came in 2016 at FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Commanders, and came away with a 35-32 victory.
Despite its proximity, Cincinnati was rarely featured on the Mountaineers' schedule until joining the Big East in 2005. West Virginia holds a 16-3 record against the Bearcats, including 5-2 in Big East Play.
