What Sonny Dykes Said About West Virginia

TCU head coach Sonny Dykes discussed this week's matchup against the Mountaineers.

The series against West Virginia

"We know we're in for a big challenge Saturday. I think if you go look at the history between TCU and West Virginia, I think we lost four games in a row against them. We had a really hard-fought game up in Morgantown last year and were fortunate to get the win. We know it's been a tough game for TCU in the past."

Initial thoughts on this year's WVU team

"This is a good football team. A team that is playing with a lot of confidence, a lot of momentum. They had a really good win against Pittsburgh and a really good conference win against Texas Tech last week. They're playing really physical, really hard. They look like a typical West Virginia tough football team. We'll have our hands full Saturday."

West Virginia's defense

"It's kind of a typical West Virginia defensive front. They're good up front. They're big and they're strong. They play hard and they're very physical. At least to me, that's kind of where it starts. That's really the mentality of the football team is it's kind of built on that. I don't see a weakness defensively. I think typically when you go into a week and you start looking at teams and you want to go after this guy or I want to attack that guy or they're not good at this, can't play this -- you don't really see much of that from West Virginia. They're just a really solid defensive football team. They tackle well. They run to the ball. They understand how to leverage the ball and funnel the ball back to other people to make tackles. They just play a really good brand of defense."

How WVU has improved since Week 1

"They had some bad stuff happen to them against Penn State, but obviously Penn State's a good football team. I think probably similar to us they just got better. I think they played a pretty good opponent Week 1 and probably didn't play their best game and have had a chance to get back on track. They've continued to get better really on both sides of the ball. I think that's been a key to their improvement. You can just see game to game they get better offensively and they become more certain of who they are and their identity and kind of the same thing on defense."

Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol

"I think you have to prepare for both. I'm not sure quite exactly what we're going to see yet. I think their skill sets are similar. It's not like they're totally completely different guys. Obviously one of them is left-handed and one of them is right-handed which makes things a little bit different. They are fairly similar but have different strengths and can do different things."
