What the ESPN FPI Says About WVU vs. Duquesne

The Mountaineers are in a great position to get their first win of the season.

There aren't many guaranteed wins on the schedule for West Virginia in 2023 and as a matter of fact, this week's game against Duquesne is really the only sure bet.

According to the ESPN FPI, the Mountaineers have a 97.2% chance of picking up their first win of the season.

West Virginia has never lost to an FCS opponent, holding a 23-0 record all-time against the lower-level programs. Under head coach Neal Brown, the Mountaineers are 4-0, defeating James Madison 20-13 (2019), Eastern Kentucky 56-10 (2020), Long Island 66-0 (2021), and Towson 65-7 (2022).

Duquesne lost their first four matchups against FBS foes, but finally notched their first win two years ago against the Ohio Bobcats.

"We're hungry to get a win. We're an 0-1 football team until we get a win," said WVU head coach Neal Brown. "We got an important three-game homestretch that starts here with Duquesne on Saturday night. Duquesne, a proud program. Five conference championships in the last nine years. They've had several guys over the last three or four years that have been in NFL camps. It's a group that we respect. They've got good players. We'll get their best shot."
