After Cam Newton suffered a mild foot injury in week 2, many WVU football fans expected to see Will Grier get the start at QB. Instead, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera gave the nod to the former Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen.

In his week three victory against the Cardinals, Allen lit it up. He finished the game with 261 yards and 4 touchdowns. Allen also went 19/26 completing 73 percent of his passes.

Allen has not been perfect, but he is getting the job done. Allen is undefeated as a starter and is yet to throw an interception. However, Allen did lose three fumbles in last weeks 16-10 win over the Texans.

Fast forward to week five and Allen is getting his 3rd consecutive start. It appears that Rivera looked at who was on the opposing side of him instead of worrying about the fumbles. After all, Allen did have that potent Texan pass rush creating chaos all Sunday.

So, what is the point of this post? When will WVU fans be graced with watching the brother of Nash and Hayes Grier in an official NFL game? Well, that still remains unclear. It appears that Rivera and the Panthers are content with Allen steering the ship while Newton remains absent.

It doesn't make sense for the Panthers to have used their third round pick on a QB they didn't plan on using in the future. After Grier's preseason struggles, it doesn't look like the Panthers are high on Grier. This implies his time in Carolina could be coming to an end before it even gets started, or it could mean they just don't feel like the time is right to throw him in the fire.

It is obvious that the Panthers prefer Allen and want to continue to see what he has in his repertoire. Newton is just 30 years old and most likely will try and play for a few more years and Allen seems to be a capable backup. Allen is 23, Grier is 24, so at some point you would imagine that the organization will have to keep one and let one go.

While I can't predict the future, I can give you my opinion. I think Mountaineer fans need to remain patient with Grier and come to the conclusion that he may not play any meaningful snaps in Carolina. However, that doesn't mean he won't pan out in the NFL, another organization who may be in dire need of a quarterback or has a diluted QB room may go after him.

The future for Grier remains unclear.
