WVU Defensive Lineman Is A Semifinalist For The William V. Campbell Trophy
Reese Donahue, senior defensive lineman from Milton, WV, has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. The award, which recognizes the best football scholar-athlete in the country, is celebrating its 30th year of presenting the award. It is awarded to the individual based on his combined football performance, academic success, and leadership.
Each of the finalists have been nominated by their school, and the winner must be a senior or graduate student playing in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2, put up extraordinary numbers on the field, and have shown solid leadership on and off the field.
Donahue is one of 185 semifinalists for the award. The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF), who is comprised of a group of the media, College Football Hall of Famers, and athletic administrators, will narrow down the list to 12-14 finalists on October 30th. Each of those finalists will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2019 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. Those finalists will be invited to the annual NFF Awards Dinner on December 10th in New York City where they will be highlighted on a national stage. The winner will be announced that evening and will have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
Donahue has played in 37 career games and has started 25 of those games, and his sophomore and junior years he was on the Academic All-Big 12 First-Team. Reese brings the Mountaineer Mentality on the field every Saturday, and also helps in the community during team events. But you probably remember him from last years Kansas game when he proposed to his girlfriend at the 50 yard line in front of the entire team and crowd.
He is a great representative for the football program, the university, and the state of West Virginia.
