Quick Hits: Highs and Lows from Greene, 'Worst Defensive Performance' + More
The loss to Houston
"Never experienced a loss like that. The game should have never came down to a Hail Mary. I felt strongly about that after the contest and even more so after watching it four or five times."
The Hail Mary
"We had our regular defense in because we knew they had two plays. We have a last play grouping, we didn't put it in. We didn't practice it last week, mostly because we had some injuries in it. Quit using offensive guys really I guess several years ago. If you remember when the Patriots had (Rob) Gronkowski out there, I think the Dolphins beat them. So took that and just kept defensive guys out there. And our best defensive guys are our best vertical guys anyway. Bottom line, we didn't execute. If I had to do anything over again, we would have just pressured. We three-man rushed it. Probably would have brought five."
Bad night on defense
"Defensively, our best players didn't play very well. By far the worst performance of the year. I think it starts with poor fundamentals. Our pad level was high, we didn't shed blocks, we missed a lot of tackles. We needed to dominate with the front six and we didn't. Our pass coverage wasn't good enough. We gave up way too many easy completions and a lot of that has to deal with underneath defenders."
The highs and lows of Garrett Greene's night
"I thought Garrett was special. He can and we will build off that. He and I have a really good relationship so I don't have any problem telling him the truth. What makes him great is also sometimes his Achilles heel. Whether that's playing quarterback or that's celebrating a touchdown. Without him, we got no chance in that game. He made us go. You can look at his stats, he played extremely well. Probably as good as we played at that position here in a long time. Just can't take your helmet off."
Injury update
"I think Wyatt (Milum) will be back. I feel confident in that. He just needs to get through another day or so. (Aubrey) Burks practiced today in a limited basis. So hopefully he'll progress and be available. I think Tomas (Rimac) is more likely versus UCF. I think that would be the earliest."
