Opponent Offensive Breakdown: Texas
The first Saturday in October brings the West Virginia Mountaineers a date with the Texas Longhorns on homecoming weekend. It's no doubt that the Longhorns bring a deadly offense to Morgantown, averaging 497.8 total yards per game while going for 41.8 points per game.
Led by junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, this offense runs how he runs. With 1,237 passing yards so far this season, Ehlinger has thrown for 15 touchdowns and only one interception. If he is able to get out of the pocket and in space, Ehlinger can do some work with his feet. He has 191 yards and a touchdown on the ground this year, and at 6'3" 230 pounds, he possesses the frame to put his shoulder down and run someone over if need be.
Ehlinger may be getting one of his favorite targets back for this week too. 6'6" senior receiver, Collin Johnson, was injured during the LSU game on September 7th. He finished that game with three receptions for 49 yards. He is currently listed as questionable.
The man getting the most targets and showing up in big games this year is 5'11" senior receiver Devin Duvernay. Racking up 377 yards and four touchdowns on 39 receptions this season, Duvernay has done most of his work against stronger opponents. In the LSU game, he had 12 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. In their last contest against Oklahoma State, he reeled in another 12 receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown.
Feature running back, Keaontay Ingram will most likely get 15-20 rushing attempts for the Longhorns. On the season, Ingram has 55 carries for 295 yards and a touchdown. Most recently, he ran the ball 21 times for 114 yards against the Cowboys. With 11 catches for 120 yards, Ingram also imposes a threat in the passing game. He can cause problems if he finds space.
This will be the first road game for Texas this season, and with the Red River Rivalry on the horizon for next weekend, can there potentially be a trap game in Morgantown this Saturday?
