Baltimore didn’t have much to boast about in 2019, except the dominance of rookie John Means

With the 2019 MLB season officially in the books, the league named its finalists for rookie of the year.

The finalists for the American League RoY are Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros, Brandon Lowe of the Tampa Bay Rays and left handed hurler John Means of the Baltimore Orioles.

Means, a former West Virginia graduate, posted a 12-11 record to go a long with an ERA of 3.60. He racked up over 155 innings in his 27 starts, while striking out 121 batters and only walking 38.

Means was the Orioles lone all-star representative and appears to have all but locked up a spot in the rotation for 2020.

During his two year stint at West Virginia (2013-14), he posted a 10-6 record and a 3.24 ERA. Means was an 11th round pick of the Orioles in the 2014 MLB Draft and is just one of many Mountaineers starting to make some noise at the pro level.

The winner for the AL Rookie of the Year will be announced on November 11th on the MLB Network
