Geno Smith and the Seahawks Capture Walk-Off Win in Detroit
Seattle quarterback Geno Smith capped off a 328-yard and two touchdown performance with a 75-yard game winning touchdown drive in Detroit to capture the Seahawks first win of the season.
Smith and the Seahawks took an early 7-0 lead on their opening drive. Smith was 5-6 for 60 yards with Kenneth Walker III punching it into the endzone from a yard out.
Detroit took a 14-7 lead into halftime but on the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Lions running back David Montgomery fumbled the ball at the Detroit 23-yard line.
Geno hit tight end Colby Parkinson for 20 yards before Walker pushed his way to the endzone to tie the game at 14.
The Lions responded on the ensuing possession with a nine-play 75-yard touchdown drive to reclaim a seven-point advantage, 21-14.
After Seattle drove the ball to the Detroit seven-yard line, the Seahawks settled for a 25-yard field goal to cut the deficit to four.
Smith and the Seahawks took the lead following a turnover on downs by the Lions at midfield. Smith's pass in the right flat to tight end Will Dissly turned into a 28-yard gain, then Smith scrambled for 15 yards for a manageable third and five, but a penalty set the Seahawks back to a third and 10.
Smith linked up with receiver Tyler Lockett for 12-yards and the first down before the two connected on a three-yard touchdown pass for a 24-28 lead.
The Seahawks took a 31-21 lead after Trey Brown intercepted Lions quarterback Jared Goff for a 40-yard pick six.
Goff and the Lions answered with a 75-yard touchdown drive to get back within three, then after a three and out by the Seahawks offense where Smith took an ill-advised sack for a 17-yard loss, the Lions tied the game with a field goal as time expired.
The Seahawks won the toss and elected to receive the ball to begin overtime.
Smith orchestrated the game winning drive, going 6-7 for 69 yards and ending with a six-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett as the Seahawks took the overtime win 37-31.
