Will Jevon Carter Leave the Bucks?

Jevon Carter has a big decision to make this offseason.

After bouncing around the league the first few years of his career, it seems like Jevon Carter has finally settled into a role with the Milwaukee Bucks. He's not only a key piece off the bench for them, he's someone that they can trust to start games as well.

This past season, Carter was in the starting lineup for 39 games and took full advantage of his opportunities filling in for Jrue Holiday. In his expanded role, Carter posted career highs in points per game (8.0), rebounds per game (2.5), steals per game (0.8), and blocks per game (0.4), all while shooting 42% from three and the field.

Now, the question is - will Carter fit with new head coach Adrian Griffin?

That's something that remains to be seen. Considering Griffin's background, I would think Carter is someone he would want to have on the roster. He's a defensive-minded coach that emphasizes playing with toughness and effort, which perfectly describes the former Mountaineer guard.

The kicker is, it's not completely up to Griffin or the Bucks.

Carter has a player option for the 2023-24 season, meaning he can pick it up and earn $2.2M from the Bucks or he can decline it and become an unrestricted free agent.

Although Carter has found success with Milwaukee, I wouldn't be surprised to see him decline the option and become a free agent. Not that he would do so with the intention of leaving, but hitting free agency would drive up the cost for Milwaukee to bring him back.

It's hard to find guys like Carter in the NBA who are so good on the defensive end and can also find ways to contribute offensively. He's worth a heck of a lot more than $2.2M/year and has earned the right to get paid. If Carter does opt for free agency, I would expect the Bucks to still be involved.
