DE Makai Byerson Recaps Official Visit to WVU, Discusses What's Next

West Virginia is heavily pursuing the Virginia defensive end.

Midlothian, Virginia defensive end Makai Byerson (6'4", 235 lbs) made the five-hour trip to Morgantown over the weekend for his official visit to WVU. He enjoyed getting to tour the facilities and campus but being able to actually hear what his role would look like is something he was excited to discuss.

"It was great. I got to spend more time with the staff and really go in-depth about how they see me in the program and how they can help me become a better player and person," Byerson told Mountaineers Now. "The whole staff from top to bottom are really on the same page with helping us student-athletes. Plus, I like the versatility the d-line plays with. It was something I didn't fully know coming into the weekend."

Defensive line coach Andrew Jackson is the lead recruiter for Byerson and has made it a priority to keep the lines of communication open. "That's my guy. We always keep in touch and he always makes it down to school to visit. He's just a cool, chill guy."

Byerson has a busy month still left ahead of him as he has three official visits remaining on the docket: Rutgers (June 9-11), Kentucky (June 16-18), and Virginia Tech (June 23-25)

Byerson is also considering Boston College, Pitt, Tennessee, and Virginia. When asked where West Virginia stands in his recruitment, Byerson responded, "They are one of the top contenders."

The plan, right now, is to take the official visits and evaluate the options for a period of time before making a decision sometime in early July.
