The West Virginia Women's Soccer team advanced to the Sweet 16 Friday night for the third straight season as they took care of business in penalty kicks versus Rutgers.

Offensively the Mountaineers were very active during playing time, taking 6 Shots on Goal compared to only one for the Scarlet Knights. Michaela Abam leaded the Mountaineers in SOGs, getting 2 of the 6 attempted. During the course of the two overtimes both squads went at it back and forth with no one taking any real serious attempts at a winner.

In PKs Mountaineer Carla Portillo would get things started off, making her attempt to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 edge. After a early save by Rylee Foster in the Knights first attempt, both squads would manage to go back and forth for a brief second as the scoreboard got to 3-3. Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel would score the game winner making it 4-3 as WVU Goalie Rylee Foster made the game winning save off an attempt from Rutger's Brianna Starr.
