Does Alliance have what it takes to be ALGS Split 2 Playoff Champions?

  • Alliance finished the group stages in first place with 192 points, securing three wins throughout the three series.
  • Through the three group stage series Alliance secured 111 total kills.
  • This is Miron “Effect” Novikov’s first-ever LAN event and he’s had an amazing performance.

As the Apex Legends Global Series finishes up its second day of group stages, there are many teams that have had stand-out performances. But there’s only one team among 40 gathered in London from around the world that sits at the top. Alliance, the Swedish esports organization, has been dominating the battlefield and finishes the week sitting at the top of group stages with 194 points. They're second only to TSM with the next few teams more than 40 points away.

Alliance are Next Level

The biggest difference between TSM and Alliance, both teams with the best chances of making the championship circle on Sunday, is Alliance's aggression and willingness to take fights that makes them so dominant and dangerous to other teams. In the first day of group stages they took first place overall in group A vs B with 85 points, a 24 point lead on second place.

They ended the week with 111 kills to TSM's 100 kills. Though TSM secures more in placement points, putting them just 3 points above Alliance in the overall standings for the group stages.

It's impressive to place so high off of just kill points. On their first set of matches in group stages, they took no wins but did get second place four times. More importantly, in those six matches, they racked up a total of 45 kills which amounts for more than half of their overall points that series.

To put that in perspective, DarkZero Esports, two time-title winners came in 5th place overall in that same group and only had 38 points with a game win. Alliance would’ve beat them in points with their kills alone.

At some point, when you can secure the kills and you get a big enough lead in points, there’s not much risk in the group stages to just go as hard as you can.

Can Alliance Become ALGS Champions?

Alliance has always been at the top of the list for potential champions in the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs and their performance so far has shown why. But racking up the kills isn’t enough to grab the win in a LAN match for the ALGS.

In order to be crowned champion teams need to hit the 50 point threshold to achieve match point status, then win a game after that. With how aggressive Alliance has shown to be, it’s entirely possible they could do that in just a couple games.

Where Alliance could end up suffering, is getting that win once they’re on match point. Specifically, while they have scored one win on World’s Edge, it’s where they seem to be struggling the most.

Despite doing well on both maps in the Group A vs B stage, their placements only got worse later in the day and again in the final set for Group A vs D. Although, by the end of day 2 they were playing on a Vantage, Fuse and Mad Maggie composition, so maybe they were just playing with their food.

Alliance has the skill and they have the numbers to be champions. Effect alone, put up 24 kills in the Group A vs B matches, nearly double that of the player in second and 53 kills throughout the group stage. Yuki and Hakis were tied for 3rd most kills with Vaxlon from 100 Thieves in the Group A vs B series.

Looking at team damage in the same group matches, Alliance put up a combined total of 22,362, nearly double that of 100 Thieves in second with 13,169 damage.

Expect to see Alliance continue their aggression throughout the Winner’s bracket and into Sunday’s finals, but like all other teams they will still have to work hard if they want to secure the $300,000 first place prize.
