Apex Legends Fans Say Threat Level Event Is Little More Than a Store Rotation
Apex Legends Threat Level Event Considered a Letdown For Players
- Fans are not thrilled with the amount of content in the newest Apex Legends event.
- Apex Legends Threat Level Event consists of a new store rotation, a free prize tracker and a highlighted game mode.
- A small change was made in Team Deathmatch to remove shields and it’s been branded as Unshielded Team Deathmatch.
- The Legendary Skins in the store are recolors using the same color palette and are selling for $30.
Apex Legends newest event started on May 23rd, but some fans are calling the Threat Level event Respawn’s weakest attempt yet to engage their player base. This event consists of three parts; a new store rotation, a free prize tracker and some small changes to two game modes that border on being just plain lazy. Here’s everything you need to know about the Threat Level store event in Apex Legends.
Threat Level: Your Bank Account
When Apex Legends players hear the word event, they normally think of Collection Events. Collection Events have their own store with discounted bundles and skins, they have a total of 24 new, often unique cosmetics and an heirloom or prestige skin. They also come with new or returning Limited-Time Modes as well.
But the Threat Level store event comes with just a store rotation. Respawn has taken seven old Legend skins for Ash, Horizon, Pathfinder, Newcastle, Wraith, Fusse and Caustic and slapped a new color palette onto them. Players have already been complaining about the frequency of recolored skins, but this instance is so egregious because everything skin has the exact same color palette swap.
The price of each bundle, which includes a Legend skin, a weapon skin, a holospray (same for each) and a banner would normally cost 4,600 Apex Coins (46$ USD). But don’t worry — it’s been discounted for only 2,950 Apex Coins ($29.50 USD). The only Threat Level in this event is a threat to your bank account.
There’s also a sticker you can buy to decorate your consumables in the game and two holosprays.
Free Reward Tracker
The only part of the Threat Level store event that really makes it anything close to a typical Apex Legends event is the free reward tracker. You can log on each day and finish challenges throughout the game to earn points. Earn enough and you’ll unlock the usual suspects.
There is only regular Apex loot box in the prize track, along with 6 stars worth of Battle Pass progress. At the end is an Epic Spitfire skin and an Epic Crypto Skin that use the same color palette swap as the skins in the store rotation.
You can also get a few weapon charms, some crafting materials, holosprays and Crypto banner frame. Outside of that, unless you’re a fan of collecting badges by completing more challenges, that’s all there is to the prize tracker.
The three challengers to complete the badges include: dealing 50,000 damage during the event, getting 100 kills or assists, and restoring 5,000 health. So, you know, just playing the game as normal.
Control Highlight
A few weeks prior to the Threat Level store event going live in Apex Legends, Respawn held a public poll to let the player base decide what the next Limited Time Mode event would be; Control, Team Deathmatch or Gun Run.
Most players assumed that whatever mode won, would get some kind of new, specialized ruleset or play mode. Instead, all this meant was that the winning mode (Control) would get a highlight slot in the playlist. So for the next 2 weeks, players can play Control whenever they want.
Limited Time Mode: Lazy
The final part of the Threat Level event is a small change to make Team Deathmatch just a little more exciting, though it hasn't quite resonated with the community. It’s a special version called Unshielded and in it, there are no shields! That’s it. Very original and thought-provoking change to a game mode that just has players running around and knocking each other in record times.
Player Reactions
Season 17 Arsenal brought a lot of amazing changes and updates to the game, but the player base has rarely ever turned on the developers so quickly as they have following the silence on the current ranked situation and then this Threat Level Event.
