Seer is Out, Wattson is the Newest Catalyst Counter in Apex Legends
For the past two months while watching the Apex Legends Global Series, viewers have seen hundreds of Dark Veil Walls rise and fall from Catalyst’s along with Seer ultimates lightning up the arena. The Catalyst ultimate gives great cover for teams looking to rotate or push and the only good counter for it is a Seer ultimate. Or is it?
That’s a Sad Little Wall
Reddit user cool_name_taken posted a winning clip of their squad taking on a Catalyst team and wiping with them with ease. Although cool_name_taken did have a pretty close call as they fell into ‘one shot’ territory.
In the Twitch clip shared to reddit, cool_name_taken was running Wattson, Vantage, Ash composition…already a bit unorthodox, but it was PUBs so let them have their fun. It was the top three teams and cool_name_taken is pushing up on a team with a Thermite Grenade as the Catalyst wall comes out.
Our Apex Legends Wattson star runs forward and immediately begins to place fences down along the Catalyst wall as their team starts throwing grenades through the wall. The moment the Catalyst team begins to step through the Dark Veil to look for kills, they’re zapped by the fence, damaged, slowed and the best part? When an enemy is shocked but steps back through the Dark Veil, you can still see where they are from the electric effects on the characters.
The Wattson-led squad then proceeds to win the match when the last party comes in for the 3rd party.
I wouldn’t expect the professionals in the ALGS Pro League to start running Wattson anytime soon. But her fences are certainly an interesting way to turn Catalyst's wall into a double edge sword. It’s a great tool for providing cover when you have none, but when crossing through runs the risk of getting just as disadvantaged as when your enemies cross through it? At the very least you’ve been drawn to a standstill until the Dark Veil falls.
