Huge Upset
Heading into this tournament, the LA Thieves tied the best qualifying split in CDL history with a 7-0 record on top of a Minor Tournament victory. As the #1 seed, they were looking to avenge their game 7, round 11 loss to FaZe in Major 1. Those hopes were temporarily put on pause when the Boston Breach shocked the CDL world with a 3-1 victory over the Thieves on Thursday.
The Thieves struggled to find their footing on LAN with mediocre performance. Envoy had a particularly rough series with a 0.83 KD, the lowest on the team. After taking one of the worst losses of the year, Thieves are now just looking to make it to Saturday as they will have to start Friday in the loser’s bracket facing off against Miami.

This was an outcome that nobody had seen coming. Over the last few years, Boston’s roster has consisted mostly of a rotation of players attempting to revive their careers after failed stints on other teams. It will be exciting to see if this momentum will bring back earlier versions of Cammy and Owakening, players who were both top 10 players in the league in previous seasons.
Incredible Finishes at CDL Major 2
Thursday gave us some incredible, last second finishes that we don’t typically see in winner’s round 1 matchups. In one of the most exciting finishes in recent years, Attach popped a 4-piece to take map 1 against Toronto, a moment that would propel them to take the series 3-0:

With the play from Attach, C9NY has emerged as a dark-horse pick to win this tournament with the combined skill they have on this roster. If Sib and Attach maintain this level of play, this will be a scary team for anyone to face.
Hacienda was filled with chaos yesterday as the Boston Breach took map 1 off of the Thieves. This was the winning moment, giving them the momentum to take the series:

Seattle left no doubt Thursday with a dominant performance against Carolina. In a series that would determine who the current third-best team in the league was, Seattle took every opportunity to prove they deserved the #3 spot. This was the map that kicked off the tournament, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
