From potential Smash killer to floundering to stay alive, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl had a seemingly short-lived life. But the platform fighter is now returning with Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 coming later this year.

By the fall of 2022, it was reported that Nick All-Star had lost over 90% of its playerbase. While the concept of fighting as iconic cartoon characters initially inspired hype from the fighting game community, the lack of voice acting and polish eventually had competitive gamers, streamers, and casuals alike all going back to Smash.

Now, it’s looking like developers are hoping to revitalize Nick All-Star Brawl with a sequel that promises a lot of much-needed improvements.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 Bringing New Characters, Game Modes, Campaign

Earlier today, the official Nick All-Star Twitter channel announced that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is coming this fall.

Developers have been working on a lot of changes, including a campaign, new game modes, new gameplay, content, new characters, crossplay, and — you guessed it — voice acting. A short video on the new All-Star page has shown off some of the voice acting in action, with Squidward saying, “Everyone’s an idiot except for me. Let’s get this over with.”

Oh, and “Fuuuuuuutuuure.”

While the introduction of funny voice lines is a major update that will probably entice players to come back for just that alone, it will be interesting to see how the gameplay has improved. Developers are promising “new SUPER abilities, refined mechanics, new offensive and defensive options, and a fresh new take on platform fighting gameplay!”

On the campaign side, fans should expect an original story that has roguelike mechanics, mini-games, an arcade mode, boss rush, and more.

Jimmy Neutron, Squidward Joins Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

Developers also promised multiple new characters, plural, in its tweet. So far, however, we only have two confirmed new character: Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, and Squidward.

Jimmy will bring his scientific mind to the battle, including heavy use of a jetpack. His voice also sounds very on-point if you’re familiar with the original Nickelodeon show.

With all of these new changes, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is not coming free. The base edition is $49.99 but there’s also a Deluxe and Ultimate edition. Developers have also introduced a Season Pass, which gives you four new characters and costumes for $24.99.

What is Slime Meter in NASB 2?

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is shaking up gameplay with the addition of a meter mechanic. Revealed at Evo 2023, this three-bar meter allows players to enhance all special moves in the game similar to EX moves in Street Fighter. But the meter can also be used for a variety of mechanics

Slime Burst

Similar to burst in Guilty Gear, knock the opponent away and cancel your momentum. Great for surviving killing blows

Slime Dash

Suddenly change direction in the air and perform an air dash that travels a great distance

Slime Cancel

Cancel the animation of an attack to avoid getting punished or set up for a powerful, creative combo
