Fortnite Fans have a lot to look forward to with the February 22nd update for Patch 28.30. There’s a wealth of new content in the Fortnite Update including Fortnite Festival Season 2: Unlock Your Talent featuring Lady Gaga. But there’s also a brand new update to the world of LEGO Fortnite with the Gone Fishin’ Update.

LEGO Fortnite’s Gone Fishin’ gives players a whole new way to collect and craft with plenty of fish to discover, recipes to learn, and tools to help you do it. Here’s everything you need to know and how to get started!

Start with Crafting a Fishing Rod

You certainly don’t plan to jump into Gone Fishin’ without a fishing rod, so begin by unlocking the fishing rod recipes just by adding the appropriate material to your inventory. The higher rarity fishing rod you have, the more likely you’ll be able to pull in your catch.

  • Common Fishing Rod (craftable at a Level 1 Crafting Bench).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Common Fishing Rod by adding a Cord to your inventory.
  • Uncommon Fishing Rod (craftable at a Level 2 Crafting Bench).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Uncommon Fishing Rod by adding a Knotroot Rod to your inventory.
  • Rare Fishing Rod (craftable at a Level 3 Crafting Bench).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Rare Fishing Rod by adding a Flexwood Rod to your inventory.
  • Epic Fishing Rod (craftable at a Level 4 Crafting Bench).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Epic Fishing Rod by adding a Frostpine Rod to your inventory.

Catching Floppers, Fish, and Frys

The Gone Fishin’ LEGO Fortnite update has 15 fish to start with in Patch 28.30, but there are also Legendary versions of each of these fish. If players want to catch them all they’ll need to start exploring as certain fish only spawn in certain biomes, and some of them only in certain weather.

If you do catch any Legendary fish, floppers or frys, make sure to keep them because there will be a way to display them in future updates.

New LEGO Tools and Charms

Players in LEGO Fortnite will need a few other new tools to help make their experience with Gone Fishin’ complete. The first is the Food Processor, which can be used to turn the fish you catch into Fish Filets. Fortnite Players can get the recipe for the LEGO food processor by crafting or using the Lumber Mill. You can make further fish-related food sources with the Grill.

You can further increase your chances of catching fish by using a bait bucket to create a fishing spot. Just like the fishing rod, the higher rarity the better you’ll get at catching fish.

  • Common Bait Bucket (craftable at a Food Processor).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Common Bait Bucket by adding a Fish Filet to your inventory and having a Food Processor in the world.
  • Uncommon Bait Bucket (craftable at a Juicer).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Uncommon Bait Bucket by adding a Common Bait Bucket to your inventory and having a Juicer in the world.
  • Rare Bait Bucket (craftable at a Juicer).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Rare Bait Bucket by adding a Common Bait Bucket to your inventory and having a Juicer in the world.
  • Epic Bait Bucket (craftable at a Juicer).
    • Unlock the recipe for the Epic Bait Bucket by adding a Common Bait Bucket to your inventory and having a Juicer in the world.

The patch notes also hint that if you become enough of a fishing expert, Turk the expert angler might show up to join your adventures as a villager. Players may also come across Bob and Outcast to add to their villages as well.

Fishing tools aren’t the ones added in Patch 28.30, players can now use the shovel to dig sand out of the ground in sandy areas. Players can use the crafting bench and some sand to craft glass and then use that to make Spyglass.

Finally, the last tool added in the Gone Fishin’ LEGO Fortnite Update is the Compass and the Advanced Compass, which bring new map utility to the game. Crafting a Compass will add a new element to your HUD to know which direction you’re going and the Advanced Compass will allow you to add map markers to your map.

New Charms have been added to the game with LEGO Fortnite’s Gone Fishin’ update.

  • The Reflection Charm deals some of the damage you take back at your attacker when you get hurt.
  • The Wavebreak Charm increases your swimming speed, making you faster the more Wavebreak Charms you have equipped.
  • Both charms require different fish to craft.
