If you are new to Mortal Kombat, you have probably spotted a wide variety of characters on the roster of Mortal Kombat 1 that have some wild powers and crazy appearances. One of those is Rain, a Demi-God that seems to be some sort of elemental wizard.

Rain first appeared in the series back in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 that appeared as a joke initially. Rain was originally a red herring inserted by the game developers — a character shown in the game's attract mode who did not actually exist within the game itself as a way to trick players. But Rain eventually appeared as a playable character, originally as a ninja.

In Mortal Kombat X, Rain was a non-playable character, an antagonist in the Story Mode. He returned in Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable character you could get in the Kombat Pack 2. This made him the first-ever Mortal Kombat character to appear in more than one game as DLC.

He’s still an antagonist in Mortal Kombat 1, but Rain has become more of a mage that doesn’t use a lot of physical attacks. His staff appears to control water. This direction has been popular with the FGC, who enjoy his redesign and moveset.

Rain Playstyle in Mortal Kombat 1

Rain is a zoning character in Mortal Kombat 1. He uses water to attack from all the way across the screen. His many options include mid, low, and high — he even has anti-air attacks from afar. If another player has projectiles, Rain puts up a water bubble that blocks incoming attacks. To help with his mobility, Rain can set up water portals that allow him to teleport up to opponents and use some up-close attacks.

What Are Rain’s Fatalities?

The Red Sea is his first Fatality. He places his staff on the ground to summon a waterspout that envelopes opponents. Once trapped inside, Rain uses his staff to start spinning the water until it starts ripping apart their flesh and limbs. To add insult to injury, Rain then splits the water in half, splitting their body in the process.

Under Pressure has Rain snake water around his opponent like a rope. Then, he uses the force of the water to bend their body violently in multiple directions. At this point, you hear their bones breaking from the pressure. Their organs are hanging out of their body when Rain has the water squeeze their neck until their head pops off. Rain stomps on the head, creating a bloody explosion.

Who Is Rain’s Voice Actor in Mortal Kombat 1?

Rain is voiced by popular gaming voice actor Noshir Dalal. You’ve also heard his voice as Kotallo in Horizon Forbidden West, Charles in Red Dead Redemption, Bode in Jedi Survivor, and more. Fans have praised Dalal for his wide range when it comes to his roles.

Many of his opening banter with other characters shows a lot of character progress. Fans have noted that Rain seems to have remorse for his previous actions and has learned to face the consequences. While some feel he has already done too many wrongs to deserve any peace, others are wondering if he will get a redemption story and finally know happiness.

“Rain seeking atonement is pretty cool honestly…Let’s just see how long that lasts,” one fan wrote on YouTube.
