Last week, photos of the Nintendo Switch 2 were possibly leaked and now tech experts are saying these are most likely real.

A set of photos of the Nintendo Switch 2 first appeared on a Chinese website and started to go viral on Reddit and beyond. They showed the Nintendo Switch 2's outside appearance as well as some of the hardware. But were these photos actually legit?

Tech experts are saying yes.

Leaked Nintendo Switch 2 Photos Are Real

The unnamed Nintendo console may very well be the Nintendo Switch 2. Gamers are lamenting that it looks basically exactly like the Switch, if the photos are to be believed.

The photos include an eight-inch LCD screen and new Joy-Cons that connect to the screen with magnetic rails. There are also twin USB-C ports on the top and bottom and a spot for cartridges. Digital Foundry also noted that the hardware points at the Switch 2 have 12GB or RAM and 102 GB/s of bandwidth. DF also noted that the cartridge support points at "original Switch" games being playable on the new console.

Gamers were a bit skeptical that the photos were real but Digital Foundry noted that the leaks being originally from tracking shipping manifests from Taiwan makes it seem like these are legitimate prototype leaks.

Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter then spoke to IGN about the validity of the leaks: "Faking a convincing motherboard would require a degree of technical knowledge that I'd put beyond even the most elaborate hoax. It would be easier simply not to fake a board at all and to make the printed components look more genuine."

Nintendo hasn't commented on the leaked photos just yet. But fans are expecting an official announcement sometime this month, if the Nintendo Direct speculations are true. This Thursday could be the day we finally get our first full look at the next Nintendo console and maybe even learn what games will be on it for launch.
