THE FINALS is a chaotic team-based arena shooter that has trios fighting over cash by knocking down buildings, destroying walls, and setting the arena on fire. Looking to get ahead of other contestants while the game is still in closed beta? Here’s how to win a tournament in THE FINALS.

The main mode in THE FINALS is called Tournament Mode. You can play this both casually and ranked. If you want your trio to come out on top, you first need to understand how the game works.

Tournament Mode Structure

Tournament Mode went under some massive updates in the second closed beta. It now features 24 total players, meaning eight teams per tournament. Teams will duke it out over cash in each round in hopes of advancing up the bracket.

You will start in Knockout Round 1. There are two knockout rounds occurring at once at this stage. Each separate round will feature four teams. The top two teams from both knockout rounds will face off in Knockout Round 2.

At the end of Knockout Round 2, there will only be two teams left standing. These two teams will then fight in the Final Round. Whoever emerges from the wreckage with the cash will win the tournament.

THE FINALS Objective

Okay, so what do you even do when you land in the arena in the initial Knockout Round? The simple answer is to look for cash.

The overall objective of the match is to find as much cash as possible before time runs out.

Cash can be earned by extracting money boxes from vaults and eliminating enemy players. Money boxes spawn throughout the map. You’ll need to grab them and then safely get them to money cashout points.

When you successfully transfer money and get the payout, the other teams will become aware of your location and they will try to take you down to steal the cash for themselves.

THE FINALS Maps

The Finals shootout

There are currently two maps available in Tournament Mode. Both are inspired by real locations: Seoul, South Korea and the French Riviera, Monaco.

The Seoul map will have you duking it out inside and on top of skyscrapers while the French Riviera map is more open and has you fighting within a quiet residential area. No matter the map, you’ll need to have the right strategy and destructive power to remain ahead of other teams.

THE FINALS Contestants

Like Apex Legends and VALORANT, THE FINALS features a roster of contestants to choose from that all have different capabilities and weapons.

Right now, there are three different classes to choose from: Light, medium, and heavy build. Each class has its own loadout with specialized abilities, weapons, and equipment.

Light Build

THE Finals pistol light build

Light contestants are speedy and accurate. You can flank enemies and easily evade them as well as quickly carry around money boxes. Light contestants, however, are very squishy.

To avoid getting completely destroyed, you’ll be given a Grappling Hook for safe escapes or a Cloaking Device that makes you invisible when motionless. Their Evasive Dash will keep you out of harm’s way when used strategically.

Light contestants carry a silent semi-automatic pistol, the V95, that’s great for mechanically gifted players that are able to hit accurately. You’ll also have the LH1, a semi-automatic marksman rifle that’s louder and longer range but much more powerful. Light contestants also carry an Uzi that’s great for dealing high damage at a close range. A sawed-off shotgun is available if you want to be right in the enemy’s face. If you prefer fighting from a safe distance, there is the .30-06 sniper, a bolt action with long-range capabilities.

Medium Build

This is a more supportive and balanced contestant. The Healing Beam ability allows you to heal allies or you can choose to be more defensive by selecting the Guardian Turret or Recon Senses ability. The second ability makes opponents visible through structures for a short duration of time.

If you go with medium build, you’ll have the AKM, an automatic rifle that’s great at medium range despite its big kick. You also have a pump action grenade launcher that takes a bit to shoot but deals massive damage. Next is the Revolver 357, which is powerful but requires accuracy. The Repeater is a slower semi-automatic rifle that deals good damage from a safe distance.

Heavy Build

The heavy contestant is tankier than the two others, designed to secure and defend objectives and push through enemy defenses. This is a great choice for players that want to outlive the enemy and don’t mind sacrificing mobility.

Your first ability option is Charge n’ Slam, a charge that propels you forward and breaks walls and obstacles. It can also be used to slam to the ground if you’re in the air, damaging enemies below you. Defend objectives with the Goo Gun, which shoots blobs that slow down opponents. The Mesh Shield allows you and your teammates to have shoot-through cover, perfect for approaching other teams.

The heavy contestants have an M60 machine gun, a high capacity and heavy gun that does massive damage. You also have a flame thrower that doesn’t reach far but can decimate enemies in its range. The SA1216 is a shotgun that can fire many rounds but also has a short range. The M32 grenade launcher is timed and good for chokepoints, although it’s hard to lock down moving targets.

Create a Destructive Team Comp

Shotgun medium build The Finals

When you play THE FINALS with two teammates, you’ll need to figure out the most successful combination of builds to create team synergy and carry out strategies. Select abilities and loadouts that work with your teammates for a larger chance at success.

For example, if you want to play defensively and have a team focused on guarding cash objectives, consider abilities that will work together to make this possible. Have a medium build contestant on your team that throws down a Guardian Turret once cash is secured. Then have the heavy build choose the Goo Gun to create more obstacles, slowing down approaching enemies and giving up the upper hand.

If you picture your team being a bit more aggressive, add a light build contestant with a Grappling Hook to reach unexpected areas. Meanwhile, the medium build contestant should have a Healing Beam to keep everyone healthy as they rush into a fight. The heavy can use Charge n’ Slam to break down walls, protected by the medium constant’s healing, or can provide extra defense with the Mesh Shield to allow for a safe approach. Meanwhile, the light contestant can flank unexpected enemies that are focused on the two that are approaching behind the shield.

Remember to Destroy the Map

THE FINALS’ entire arena is destructible, which is an added element that creates for more dynamic gameplay. Unlike most team-based shooters, you don’t have to follow pre-set paths to carry out strategies. You can break windows, destroy floors, and knock out panels to quickly drop to objectives or catch enemies by surprise.

With the right firepower and equipment, your team can even take down entire buildings. This can allow you to overwhelm enemies and overtake an objective from a shocking position or even drop buildings onto enemies to damage or even eliminate them.

By watching a few content creators play in the first two betas, it’s safe to say that the game is total chaos. There is never really time to rest since enemies are constantly looking to attack or defend objectives. And there’s no safe angle. Stay on high alert and expect enemies from the most surprising of angles.
