Watch time represents how much time viewers tuned in for, and stream time is the total time they were live. 1. GamesDoneQuick
Games Done Quick (GDQ) is a charitable organization that hosts speedrunning marathons on their Twitch channel, aiming to complete video games as quickly as possible. These events, held biannually, bring together a global community of gamers showcasing their skills while raising funds for various charities. January was the Winter Games Done Quick an event that always draws the most viewers on Twitch. GDQ has gained immense popularity for its entertaining and skillful gameplay, fostering a supportive community. Viewers can donate during the broadcasts, contributing to the chosen charity. The events have become a major highlight in the gaming community, combining a passion for gaming with philanthropy. We won't be seeing GDQ again until their summer event, but one should expect to see the speedrunning Titans top the charts once again in July
2. Gaules
Gaules is the most popular Portuguese language streamer, which provides energetic and engaging content, primarily streaming Counter-Strike. In January, Gaules played a few variety games and spent some time chatting with his audience, but the tried-and-true Counter-Strike streams got him the most engagement
3. fps_shaka
FPS_Shaka is the largest Japanese language streamer and plays a variety of games. The most popular streams of January were for Grand Theft Auto V, but also had some success with Palworld towards the end of the month
4. Jynxzi
- It is a bit of an anomaly on Twitch, being able to maintain a spot in the top 10 most viewed channels on the platform without playing a game in the top 10 most popular. January 2024 was a big month for Jynxzi, with high viewership for the routine Rainbow 6 Seige streams, but also massive engagement on several just-chatting streams, which produced some viral moments that managed to gain traction outside of the Twitch space. This translated to Jynxzi having the largest average viewership gain in January
5. Kai Cenat
KaiCenat is currently the most popular Just Chatting streamer. Known for celebrity appearances, viral moments, and crazy antics, Kai routinely draws massive audiences for his shows. Kai’s playthrough of The Last of Us II: Remastered performed poorly compared to his usual content, but huge audiences tuned in for his NBA 2k 2024 streams.
6. Eliasn97
Eliasn97 is the current largest German language streamer, broadcasting a variety of games and Minecraft. Eliasn97 had several community days in January with astronomical engagement.
7. Caseoh_
Caseoh_ is a variety streamer that had a breakout month in January. Caseoh_ had massive follower gains and increases in average viewership, which is unusual considering the wide scope of the games they play.
8. Loltyler1
Loltyler1 is one of the longest-running League of Legends streamers in the business and January 2024 was a great month for him. His engaging League of Legends streams are making some serious gains in terms of watch time, the amount of hours his audience watched went up by over 300% this month!
9. Ibai
Ibai is the largest Spanish-language Twitch streamer, known for playing a variety of games. His most successful streams of January were League of Legends sessions, which vastly outperformed the rest of his schedule.
10. Junichi Kato
Unko-Chan had a strong start to 2024, with his variety of games streamed. He spent a lot of time streaming VALORANT and various fighting games to mixed results, but the other variety of content, including Palworld and the "Yakuza" series of games, saw large viewership

Top Streamed Games of January 2024
Here's a breakdown of statistics on the top games on Twitch for January 2024, as tracked by Sullygnome. Watch time represents how much time viewers tuned in for, and stream time is the total time streamers broadcasted that game. Peak viewership shows most viewers watching that game at any point in the month, while average viewership shows the most regular amount of viewers. Peak channels shows the largest number of streamers broadcasting that same game concurrently, whereas the average channels shows the regular amount of channels broadcasting a game one would expect to see. The Average Viewer Ratio represents the numbers of hours watched (Watch time) divided by the number of hours streamed.
0. Just Chatting
Just chatting is always the largest category on Twitch, so we will be awarding this the untouchable number 0 on the list. The category as a whole saw growth in watch time and average viewership, both at a little over 1%, an astounding statistic when you consider it's already the largest.
1. Grand Theft Auto: Five (GTAV)
GTA had a large increase in the amount of average watch time and in the number of average viewers.
2. League of Legends
League of Legends started the year off strong with a huge uptick in the amount of time viewers spent watching the esport. Esports in general performed very well in January, but League remains the king with the most increased number of hours watched.
3. Escape from Tarkov
Escape from Tarkov had a wipe on December 27, 2023 resetting all character progress back to 0. This is always an exciting time to be a player, and streaming numbers for the game reach wild heights as a result. Only time will tell if interest can be retained in the game as we get further into this new season of the game but for January, Tarkov saw massive growth in terms of watch time, and average viewership
4. Fortnite
While Fortnite will for the foreseeable future be a pop-culture phenomenon, January 2024 Twitch statistics showed a meaningful drop off in interest among viewers. Fortnite was the only game in the top 10 to lose average watch time and average viewership. Fortnite performed relatively weak to the rest of the top games on Twitch, to the point that its only growth statistic was peak viewership
5. Palworld
The breakout new IP of 2024 so far, Palworld exploded onto the Twitch scene with the second-highest number of peak channels, with only Fortnite eclipsing it. Because it's a new IP, we don't know if the massive watch time and average viewership numbers are sustainable, but considering the open nature of the game, it could be expected to have some degree of staying power.
6. VALORANT
VALORANT is seeing meaningful growth across all measures in the new year, but not as much proportionally as the other esports giants League and Counter-Strike. VALORANT stats were remarkably consistent, however, since they show similar ratios to increases in watch time, time broadcasted, and average viewership. This even and steady growth shows interest in the game is rising across the platform, and not just because a few channels are blowing up and creating outliers in the statistics.
7. Counter-Strike
Counter-Strike, like League and VALORTANT, showed growth over January. 2024 is setting out to be a great year for esports, and Counter-Strike’s engagement numbers reflect this. Counter-Strike is the only previously established esports IP to outperform League of Legends in growth in the top 10
8. Minecraft
Minecraft showed modest growth in all categories, remaining a favorite to many, but without much movement
Dota 2
Dota 2 remains the only major esport not to see large growth at the start of the new year, with modest performance across the board and even a decline in peak viewership.
10. Call of Duty: Warzone
Warzone’s January statistics represent a worrying trend. The game saw a modest increase in the amount of hours it was streamed, and a similarly proportioned increase in streamers and average channels, and a decrease everywhere else. This is indicative of fewer viewers being interested in the game, despite more people being willing to broadcast it.
