If you are a die-hard Pokémon fan then you know that Mewtwo has been lurking in the data shadows for a while and that it was only a matter of time before a tera raid containing one of the most beloved legendaries from the franchise became available.
On August 8th, TPC broadcasted the longest Pokémon Presents ever and during the 30-minute livestream, the official announcement of the Get Mew & Mewtwo event was announced.
Unlock the High-Level Raids
If you haven’t battled in the 7-star tera raids, this is what is going to take you the most time. To unlock access you need to have finished the core story of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, which shouldn’t be an issue at this point. You’ll be asked to go around and battle all the gyms again, then participate in the Ace Tournament. All of that shouldn’t give you too much difficulty, so all that’s left is to participate in ten tera raids of 4 and 5 Star difficulty.
When you’ve participated in enough of them, you should see 7-Star tera raids start to pop up on your map but only when you are connected online.
Capturing Mewtwo
As per usual, 7-star raids can be quite challenging so we recommend you go in with a group of actual players instead of choosing the option to fill your party with NPC players but just like any other 7-star raids methods to solo it will certainly surface.
To better prepare yourself we also recommend you gather as many materials as possible from the tera raid events that will precede Mewtwo. These raids will guarantee you have more than enough tera shards, EXP boosts, and stat boost items to train Pokémon for this and future challenges.
Here are the dates for the tera raids in which you can farm materials:
- Wave 1 - August 9th to August 17th
- Wave 2 - August 18th to August 31st
Rewards for Mewtwo
What kinds of rewards do you get for taking down Mewtwo? You’ll be able to add Mewtwo to your Pokémon collection and this one comes with the Mightiest Mark, so he’ll appear on the battlefield as Mewtwo the Unrivaled.
The official item list has not yet been announced but if this event follows the steps of its predecessors you’ll get the chance at Herba Mystica, Ability Patches, Capsules, a large amount of Tera Shards, and plenty of items to sell for Poke Dollars. Plus, Bottle Caps and Golden Bottle Caps for hyper training.
Mewtwo’s Set-Up
Mewtwo's tera raid moveset has also not been confirmed but we can already start theory-crafting ideas on how to beat it based on its most notorious available moves:
- Amnesia
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Fire Blast
- Nasty Plot
- Psystrike
- Aura Sphere
- Shadow Ball
- Thunder
- Psychic
Its ability will either be Pressure, which will increase the amount of PP used per move, or Unnerve which disables the uses of berries (goodbye Belly Drum strategies…).
The Best Counter for Mewtwo
There are still many details that we do not know about this 7-star raid but one extremely important detail has already been released: Mew will get a unique boost when utilized during this event’s raids. To help you get a headstart we have prepared a Mew just for this challenge:
Mew
Here are all the basic details you need to know at a glance to get your Mew prepared.
- Tera Type: Dark
- Nature: Modest (Special Attack Up, Attack Down)
- EV Spread: HP 252, Special Attack 252, Special Defense 4
- Ability: Synchronize
- Held Item: Shell Bell
- Move set:
- Dark Pulse
- Acid Spray
- Nasty Plot
- Variable move
As mentioned earlier for this specific tera raid Mew will receive a unique boost to its stats. When you enter the battle with this Pokémon you will instantly receive a 50% boost on your HP, 20% on all other stats as well as have all your IVs set to 6. With these numbers in mind, it’s easy to see how choosing Mew for this challenge is a no-brainer.
First, we aim to increase our Special Attack with the use of Nasty Plot and also reduce Mewtwo’s Special Defense with Acid Spray. From this point forward all you need to do is spam Dark Pulse while being careful of when to pop your tera.
