Keep in mind that these prices will go down as time goes on. But if you want to get these cards right now, you may need to shell out some cash.
Most Expensive Cards in Scarlet & Violet: Paldean Fates
Charizard ex (Special Illustration Rare) - $187
This card packs a punch — or two. Firstly, it’s Charizard and the art is amazing. It’s no surprise to see this card at the top and breaking banks. Charizard is one of the most collectible ‘mon out there. Secondly, it’s a viable card. The ability Infernal Reign allows you to search for up to three basic energy when the card is played to evolve a Pokémon, making it a very powerful way to get energy and set up your bench.
Gardevior ex (Special Illustration Rare) - $132
This is another unsurprising card to find on this list. Gardevior is a popular waifu — I mean Pokémon. This card is a collector’s dream thanks to the whimsical artwork of Gardevior dancing in the moonlight. But leave it to Pokémon to also make this card good. The ability Psychic Embrace lets you attach a basic energy from your discard pile to one of your Pokémon - as many times as you’d like! Dang.
Mew ex (Special Illustration Rare) - $116
I immediately said, “Wow, I don’t like this art.” But my friend told me my opinion is wrong. This fun and unique artwork was provided by a popular Japanese artist known as USGMEN and when I looked at the other art I realized, “Dang… I was wrong.” This super adorable card is clearly a favorite amongst collectors. On top of that, it’s another strong Mew card, able to copy your opponent’s attacks. The draw power is another bonus.
Iono (Special Illustration Rare) - $95
With very unique art, it’s no wonder that this card is picking up steam upon Paldean Fates’ release. The vibrant colors and Iono’s infectious smile are sure to have collectors drooling. This card makes each player shuffle their hand and put it at the bottom of their deck before drawing a card for each remaining prize card. It’s a great way to catch up to an opponent who may have the upperhand.
Pikachu - $68
This card is the physical embodiment of “yipeee!” The cutesy pastel stars and other shapes blasting from behind Pikachu as he excitedly jumps at you is just beyond adorable. As one of the most desirable ‘mon for collectors, it’s no surprise to see this card near the top despite not being competitively viable. You know at least a few people who collect every Pikachu card ever made, don’t lie.
Nemona (Special Illustration Rare) - $44
Okay, it’s time to pay your waifu tax. Despite not being an exciting card for trading card game players, this card is still quite pricey thanks to the fun art of Nemona. She’s the new trainer in Scarlet & Violet, known for being energetic and fun.
Penny (Special Illustration Rare) - $41
This card goes hard. The dark and mysterious image shows Penny staring intensely at you while wearing the most adorable backpack known to man. The Umbreon is another great addition for collectors. On top of that, it’s a pretty nifty support card, allowing you to pick up a Pokémon and all attached cards and put it back in your hand. The satisfaction of doing this before your Pokémon is knocked out is the best feeling.
