Pokémon TCG Community About to Pull Up on McDonald's For Promos
Pokémon trainers, get ready for some fast food feuds and McDonald’s mayhem: Pokémon promos are returning to Happy Meals this month.
Happy Meals served inside a Pikachu-themed box will be coming with collectible cards starting September 12, 2023 and running until October 16, 2023.
The Pokémon TCG community has a love-hate relationship with McDonald’s apparently annual Pokémon promo Happy Meals. While grabbing a promo pack along with some chicken nuggets is awesome for any collector, the previous years have proven that it’s not that simple.
During Pokémon’s 25th anniversary in 2021, scalpers took it upon themselves to buy hundreds of Happy Meals, sharing photos of their cars piled high with Pikachu boxes full of greasy fries and promo cards.
This sent the Pokémon community into a massive frenzy, with collectors and children alike rushing to McDonald’s to get their hands on their own Happy Meal promos before scalpers took all of the product for themselves. Some McDonald’s locations were even allowing scalpers to purchase promo card packs without buying Happy Meals, further depleting their pile of packs for future customers.
The prices of the promos skyrocketed online since scalpers had taken almost all of the promos for themselves and were able to set the price for desperate collectors who no longer could find them at McDonald’s near them.
McDonald’s and Pokémon learned and only allowed adults to get a limited amount of Happy Meals in 2022.
