Not many were expecting the match between NRG and MIBR to be as close as it was throughout this three-game thriller. While MIBR’s improvements throughout the VCT 2023: Americas League had been seen, nobody was expecting them to put up a fight against NRG in today’s match.

Though NRG struggled in their VCT 2023: Americas League opening series against Leviatan, they had mightily bounced back against Sentinels to re-establish themselves as a frontrunner to represent the Americas League at VCT Masters Tokyo.

Yet, once again, MIBR proved that they are not to be taken lightly and have quietly established themselves as a dark horse in the VCT 2023 Americas League.

MIBR kept pace with NRG in the first half of their opponent’s pick of Icebox as both teams stood at an even 6-6 record. In the second half, many expected NRG to put the finishing touches on a map one victory on Icebox once they won the first two rounds of the second half. However, that proved to not be in the future as MIBR garnered seven rounds in the second half to win on NRG’s map pick.

The final two maps of the series saw both teams battle valiantly back and forth in a pair of maps that went to overtime. While NRG was able to prevail on mp two with a 16-14 scoreline, that same play could not be said on map three on Split. NRG found themselves in control on map three, but MIBR’s improved team play and the natural aim were enough to solidify yet another upset in the VCT 2023 Americas League.

This loss puts NRG at a 1-2 scoreline as they look to improve their VCT 2023: Americas League record. They will look towards Cloud9 and KRU in the VCT 2023: Americas Super week as the North American powerhouses set their sights on a bounce back in the Americas League.

As for MIBR, this win puts the team at a 2-1 scoreline in the VCT 2023: Americas League regular season. The team will look to bounce back against Leviatan and Sentinels as the young Brazilian lineup continues their push for a postseason birth.
