VCT Pacific Technical Issues Cause Delays and Confusion — But Create a Meme
What was meant to be an action-packed VCT Pacific superweek started off as one of the most frustrating moments in the VCT thanks to some immense technical issues.
VCT Pacific is being held at a LAN in Seoul, featuring the top teams from Asia as they fight for a spot in the playoffs. This region is highly competitive, which makes for some insanely intense matches watched by fans all over the world.
Unfortunately, Paper Rex and Gen.G’s match was disrupted.
Technical Issues Plague Paper Rex and Gen.G Match
The highly anticipated match between Paper Rex and Gen.G was delayed for almost an hour due to a “client issue,” according to the English broadcast. The match was originally meant to be streamed at 6 PM KST but the teams didn’t even walk on stage until 6:45 PM.
Finally, the game was underway. But viewers noticed other problems that distracted from the two top teams’ match.
For the entirety of the map, the familiar observer UI feature was completely gone. This feature provides viewers with additional information that helps viewers process the fast-paced action. It was quite difficult to follow for some viewers.
Viewers also noticed that the face cams were gone. Fans were not able to see players’ faces as they competed, taking away some of the personable moments of the broadcast.
According to the English casters, the team was aware of the ongoing UI issues but wanted the players to be able to get on with the match. This made some sense to fans, but there were some other issues that couldn’t be ignored, like Paper Rex’s Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie having his name replaced with VCTKRextra002, an alternate account Jingg had to use due to the ongoing technical problems.
A lot of viewers started trolling Jinggg and the rest of PRX over the mixup, writing in the Twitch chat that the new player was “solid” on Raze. In fact — despite the mixup — Jinggg stole the entire match. With a 278 average combat score, he was rewarded Match MVP.
Overall, the chaos didn’t end up ruining the actual in-game action. The slaughter of Gen.G was fun to watch for VALORANT fans, with Jinggg popping off on top of it. But fans are hoping that the schedule won’t be interrupted as dramatically going forward.
VCT Pacific has run into some minor technical issues throughout the season, but this was most definitely the worst. Fans are hoping that nothing is as dramatic going forward and the competition can remain the focal point of the stream.
