As 2023 wraps up, Blizzard is looking forward to the New Year and has released roadmaps for both World of Warcraft: Dragonflight and The War Within as well as World of Warcraft Classic and Season of Discovery. 2024 is shaping up to be a massive year for fans of Warcraft. Here’s what you can expect according to the World of Warcraft 2024 Roadmap.
World of Warcraft Classic at Blizzcon 2023: Cataclysm and Season of Discovery
Wrath of the Lich King Classic, Ruby Sanctum Raid
As the winter comes to a close it seems fitting that the Wrath of the Lich King Classic experience does as well. The Ruby Sanctum was the final raid to close out the original Wrath of the Lich King expansion and players will get to experience it once more as the Cataclysm Classic Beta launches near the end of the winter months.
World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery
Players can expect at least four updates to the Season of Discovery throughout the 2024 new year starting with a boost to level 40 in the final winter months. This update will bring with it new Runes, a New PvP Event and most importantly, the classic Gnomeregan dungeon will get a raid version.
Some items have already been datamined from the upcoming gnome-themed raid and are improved versions of the items players may remember from the original dungeon.
In the spring months of 2024, the level cap will be increased to 50 and even more Runes will be added. Plus, a level 50 raid. While there’s no hard confirmation of what this raid might be, some ideas that have been floating around are the Crypts of Karazhan or Scarlet Monastery. Given the focus on classic dungeons becoming raids, the Scarlet Monastery had several wings and is prime to become a full-fledged raid given the spirit of the Season of Discovery.
In the middle of summer, players can expect the level cap to rise to 60 with more runes and endgame activities. And finally in the autumn months, further expansion of the end-game content.
World of Warcraft Classic Cataclysm
The biggest news for the diehard World of Warcraft Classic fans is the next installation of the classic journey, Cataclysm. The expansion that changed and altered the face of Azeroth forever. The Beta for Cataclysm Classic should drop somewhere near the end of winter and early spring with the pre-patch event kicking off around the end of March going into April.
The Cataclysm Classic expansion will add Worgens and Goblins, Improved Guild Features, Account-Wide Collections and the Transmog system. When the Cataclysm Classic patch officially drops, players will get further updates including 4 new raids, 7 dungeons, 2 heroic dungeons, PvP battlegrounds and the Darkmoon Island. It’ll be like 2010 all over again!
Near the end of summer and going into the autumn months, World of Warcraft Classic will receive two other updates, one for the Rise of the Zandalari and one for the next raid tier, Rage of the Firelands.
Also keep in mind that since this is just a roadmap and spans most of the next year, much of it is subject to change based on player feedback collected by Blizzard.
