Rarest and Hardest Mounts to Find in World of Warcraft Dragonflight: Where To Find Them, How To Unlock Them

  • The rarest mount in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is Anu’relos, Flame’s Guidance which drops from the Mythic version of Fyrakk in the Amidrassil Raid.
  • Nearly every rare mount on this list has been obtained by less than 3% of the active accounts in World of Warcraft.
  • This list does not include mounts earned through PvP Battlegrounds or Arenas.

Mount Collectors in World of Warcraft are a special type of player that take their need for completing collections to the next level. There isn’t a dungeon they won’t farm, a zone they won’t camp and a price they won’t pay on the auction house to have every single one of them. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight added an impressive amount of new mounts and with the expansion finally wrapping up, here are the rarest and hardest-to-obtain mounts currently in the game.

Note: According to DataforAzeroth.com all of these mounts at the time of writing this guide, have only been acquired by 2% or less of the player population.

10. Lingering Echo of Tarecgosa

This first entry is a bit of an anomaly, it’s technically not a Dragonflight mount even though it was added in Patch 10.1 Embers of Neltharion. It comes from possessing the Legendary Staff, Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest, which you can obtain by following a long and complicated quest chain throughout the Firelands raid.

When you do finish it, you’ll be able to transform into Tarecgosa. Anyone who actually farmed or obtained this Legendary weapon in the days of Cataclysm, has all the leg work already done. 2.82% of player accounts in World of Warcraft have this mount in their journal.

9. Shellack

This fiery, slithering, flame-slug is actually a lot cooler than you would think. Yes, they’re made of magma with a hard, obsidian-like shell. But when your guildmates see you riding this into the next raid you’ll be the coolest member of your raid team. Or at least one of them, there are probably a few other people that may have it because you’ll need friends to unlock it.

Shellack comes from completing the Glory of the Dragonflight Hero Achievement. Which means you’ll need to complete a whole host of Mythic dungeon achievements in Dragonflight in order to nab this hot snail mount. Good luck. It’s been collected by 2.14% of accounts in World of Warcraft.

7. Reins of Valiance

There’s nothing inherently cool about this mount at first or second glance, it’s the mount used by Thane Korth’azz in the Four Horseman encounter of Naxxramas. Aesthetically it’s not much better than the Forsaken’s racial mounts. No one is going to notice it’s actually a secret mount that you can only get by following some very convoluted, but soloable, steps in order to get it.

Luckily for you, some insightful and neighborly commenters on Wowhead have step by instructions that will add it to your stable. Valiance has been collected by 2.13% of accounts in World of Warcraft.

7. Gooey Snailmental

Another sweet little snail mount, this time in a refreshing blue color, is a lot easier to get than being on this list might lead you to believe. It’s a dropped mount, but you don’t have to rely on the gods of RNG to give you what you’re searching for.

Every time you kill the final boss in the Frostone Vault Primal Storm event that takes place in the Forbidden Reach you’ll receive 0-5 Leftover Elemental Slime. Collect 50 of these and combine them together to receive your oozing, blue snail mount friend. This mount has been collected by 2.08% of accounts in World of Warcraft.

6. Cobalt Shalewing

The Cobalt Shalewing mount will be one of the harder to obtain mounts for some time to come. It’s dependent entirely on random chance and only comes from a Rare Elite in Zaralek Cavern called Karokta.

According to Wowhead, the drop rate is around 0.5%, which explains why only .96% of players in World of Warcraft have obtained this mount.

5. Liberated Slyvern

These are the types of rare and hard to obtain mounts in World of Warcraft that separate the real collectors from the tourists. Another Rare Elite spawn, this time in the Azure Span from Breezebiter. This fox-wyvern hybrid mount has only a 2.46% chance to drop and according to DataForAzeroth.com .798% of player accounts in World of Warcraft have obtained it.

4. Rocket Shredder 9001

This imposing and intimidating mount is the perfect vehicle for any goblin player or engineering enthusiast, but there’s only one way to get it and you’re not going to like it. To obtain this extremely rare mount, you’re going to have to convince a friend to join World of Warcraft through the Recruit-A-Friend program.

But you’ll only get this mount if they play for at least 6 months. Since most people are already playing World of Warcraft in anticipation for the War Within, that’s a tall order. But there’s no time like the present to convince a new friend! Only 0.668% of player accounts in World of Warcraft have obtained this mount.

3. Ochre Dreamtalon

This mount is gorgeous and shows how beautiful the Emerald Dream can be. It’s what happens when you mix a raptor with the themes of autumn. The good news, it’s obtainable through a questline in the Emerald Dream.

The bad news is that this quest-line includes some wait time and overall, it will take you about a month's worth of real time to finish it. While it is a beautiful mount, there’s a reason it’s on this list and only 0.6% of player accounts in World of Warcraft have obtained it.

2. Shadow Dusk Dreamsaber

A mystical and regal-looking Dreamsaber mount, this is available to everyone including Horde members. It’s not often that certain racial mount models make it to the other faction, but when they do they look incredible.

You’re going to need a tough and coordinated raid team in order to obtain this one, however, as it comes from completing the achievement Glory of the Dream Raider. That means you have to get all of the raid achievements in the Emerald Dream. Of all the accounts in World of Warcraft, so far, only 0.318% have gotten this rare mount.

1. Anu’relos, Flame’s Guidance

This one should be a no-brainer, as the fiery-flame birds have always been a popular mount drop from difficult raid bosses. (Looking at you Kael’thas and Ashes of Al’ar!) This toasty-looking owl-like mount drops off the final boss of the Amirdrassil Raid, Fyrakk, but only from the Mythic version.

Considering only 50 or so guilds have defeated Fyrakk on Mythic difficulty, it should come as no surprise that this is the rarest mount in World of Warcraft with only 0.0027% of all player accounts having obtained it.
